What is sad, to me, is that they are defeating themselves. Companies eager to come in and rebuild, businesses wanting to sell, all the trappings of a thriving society are lost because of the actions of the fighters. All they know is despair, so they strike out, and become themselves the reason why a good deal of the poverty continues.
What is sad is that Al-Sadr seeks his own power, and influence, so much that he is willing to sacrifice the lives of the poor, using them as pawns for his own ego.
The poor hear his words of defiance and see him as a savior. Only he only cares for them as long as they are willing to give everything they have, including their lives, for his own ambition.
