Stopping. Backing Up. Making Sense Of It.

I spent a few hours tonight at a local coffeeshop and sat across the table from Djibril N'Doye, an Senagalese artist who lives nearby. He traced a line with his finger along the edge of a saucer and quoted an African proverb. Roughly translated, it went something like this:

"If you are on a journey and you find that you have lost your way, go back! Return to the place you last knew for sure. Otherwise you will only walk in circles and waste much time."

He also said, "Do what you love. Don't try to explain it."

Does God speak sometimes from the corners of obnoxiously loud, gregarious coffeeshops when you're trying to ignore him and everyone else in this ridiculous town and get some work done for a change? I think so.
