I keep thinking that you are changing this photo, bringing the spike closer and closer...but I guess it's just my imagination because for as long as you have had it up, it would have gone completely out of focus by now.....?:)
philippa - you win the prize...for best imagination. i never would have thought of string beans unless you had said it. it's actually a type desert plant, a spiky cactus-ey plant. not sure what it's called.
