Reminds me of the Old Hymn.

In The Garden:
I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.

And He walks with me, And He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet, The birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me,
Within my heart is ringing.

I'd stay in the garden with Him,
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; Through the voice of woe,
His voice to me is calling.

(I recommend a version of the song by Over the Rhine called: Little Blue River/In The Garden)

hi peter! this is anna, natalie's friend. the name of the plant in question is sedum (see-dum, which is a member of the succulent family and happy planted in rock gardens. there are a wide variety of sedums--this one is a groundcover called sedum rubrotinctum. no idea how to pronounce THAT one. can anyone read latin?

the really interesting feature of this plant is that it will turn more intensely red in sunlight, whereas it will be just plain green in the shade. it also has little yellow flowers in the spring.

at any rate, it is a beautiful photo. as an east coast girl, i was not very familiar with cacti until i moved to los angeles. i considered cacti pretty boring, prickly and odd plants that one found in the flower shop at the grocery store--you know, with a bow tied on it. however, after a visit to huntington gardens one day, i was amazed at the variety! the texture found in cacti is almost endless...fuzzy, smooth, bumpy...and shapes, fat and round, skinny, drooping...and all sizes, from giant spiny monsters to teeny little guys. i swear, they almost have personalities. and some are quite funny looking. if you are interested, go visit a garden center over on rosemead blvd. called "california cactus." the funny looking cacti might actually be photogenic...

great blog, by the way. i occasionally visit your blog, or sam's or eric's. it takes the edge off a sometimes long day when charlie is grumpy and fussy. i wish that i could create a blog. maybe one of these days...in between diaper changes and bottles :-) can anyone tell me how to post a comment without creating a blog and selecting anonymous?
